D&I Leaders: Janine Chidlow advocates for inclusive hiring practices

June 3, 2024

Janine Chidlow, managing director at WilsonHCG, spoke to journalists from D&I Leaders about how to make hiring practices more inclusive for people with disabilities.

In the article, Chidlow stated, “I’m a real advocate for skills-first hiring where a potential candidate is assessed for their potential and core abilities in relation to a role.” This approach is more inclusive than traditional hiring methods because it focuses on the key skills needed, rather than nice-to-have ones.

She also advocates for more flexibility during the application and interview stages since not all application forms or career sites are accessible to those with visual impairments or dyslexia, for example.

Organisations should offer multiple opportunities for applicants to demonstrate why they are right for the job, including pre-recorded video interviews and one-to-one phone calls, as this helps provide unbiased, accessible journeys.
