Virtual onboarding has become the new norm because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditional onboarding methods have had to be updated as a result and companies have had to develop virtual onboarding programs.
Kim Pope, chief operating officer at WilsonHCG, has been speaking to journalists at the Forbes HR Council about how to create an effective virtual onboarding experience.
Kim, who leads the global delivery team to develop solutions to help WilsonHCG’s clients create proactive talent acquisition strategies that fuel growth and innovation, suggested organizations launch a virtual buddy program that matches new hires with experienced employees who can answer questions and provide advice.
“Because it’s virtual, you can make matches based on interests rather than just put two people together because they’re in the same office,” she added.
Kim also said that video communication should be used as much as possible too so that new hires get to see a friendly face. Getting face-to-face contact with new starters is easier than it has ever been even in a virtual environment because of technology.
